He’s also written, recorded, and produced work for himself and many groups from classical to rock. Played in many community bands, jazz, funk, and rock bands, and brass bands and ensembles. Performed in Barber Shop Quartets and choruses, and won collegiate regional Barber Shop Quartet competitions. He teaches students to play solo chord/melody arrangements for rock and blues changes on both guitar and piano. Gil also teaches light jazz and classical techniques. As a guitar/bass teacher, he teaches the fundamentals like walking, comping and improvising using both finger picking and flat picking styles, and can then move on to more technically challenging techniques like slap/pop, harmonic playing, and left/right hand hammering.
